"Troy" Question 1: Making it "legendary"

How does the director convey the fact that the film "Troy" is set in the distant past?  Are there recurrent motifs that strike you as being particularly "epic"?  Are there scenes that stick in your mind as evoking the legendary past? Are there scenes that seem inappropriately anachronistic?  What technologies do the characters use?  What kind of architecture is displayed on the sets?   Does the dialogue have any “epic” flavor, or does it sound contemporary?  There are various moments when the director uses voice-overs. When do these occur, and what effect do they create?
